- I have had a Cardinal MVP288I internal fax modem for a few months now.
- I downloaded the code update from the Cardinal Bulletin Board and
- applied it to the modem. Since the code update (to version 1.4, I
- believe) I get over 90% connections at 28.8, the rest at 26.4. I have
- no complaints. I don't do games, so I don't know for sure how this
- modem would fare playing multiplayer games. I suspect that it would
- be ok.
-
- I've seen cheap, no name 28.8 modems for about $100, but I decided to
- stay away from those, opting to go with one that had a little more
- name recognition and the firmware is upgradeable (like the
- Cardinal's).
-
- Look around some more. You can probably find a better price than the
- $150 Fry's quoted you. I got mine from Tri-State Computers for $124
- dollars plus shipping a few months ago. They might even be cheaper
- now.
